Information
U-11/12
- Clear to the outside.
- Use drop passes
frequently to retain possession and restart the offense.
- Use a crossing pass to
change ball direction at the goal.
- Pass to space near a
teammate, not directly to them.
- Use appropriate calls:
"Man on", "Time"; Drop", "Square", "Go"
U-13/14
- Use your head - figuratively
(think) and literally (headers)!
- Know where teammates and
opponents are.
- Zigzag the ball using wall
passes to keep opponents off balance.
- "Overlap" with a
teammate to draw a defender to the ball, then pass her/him at speed.
- Maintain ball possession with
a square or drop rather than pushing into a double- or triple-team.
- Anticipate long balls into
space
- As a forward, break before
the midfielder kicks the ball, so as to be passing the last
defender (onside) as the pass is made.
- As a midfielder or
defender, use touch and direction so as to make a pass, not a
long, weak shot.
- Defending against long balls, anticipate the feed and force the attackers to the
sidelines or drop the ball to the keeper.
- Support the play
- On offense, move away from
the ball to control open space, and call for the ball.
- On defense, double-team as
instructed by coaches, otherwise stay far enough away (about 10
meters) to replace a beaten defender or cut off crossing passes.
