Opportunities & Commitment
Futbol Club of Bozeman provides the following opportunities in the spring for
competitive soccer players:
- Division AA
This is currently the highest level of league play available in
the state for soccer players ages 12 through 19. To field a competitive team requires a
high level of commitment from the players, parents and coaches. Generally practices start
indoors in January or sooner once a week, progressing to 3 or 4 times a week as the
weather clears and we can move outdoors. League play runs in April and May, with two games
every Saturday anywhere in the state. Teams will usually attend at least one out of state
tournament. The end of the season is highlighted by the State Cup Tournament (for
determining the State Champions) and the Regional Snickers Cup Tournament. In the
past few years the State Cup has been a seeded tournament, the second weekend in June,
with only the top 6 Division AA teams attending; the remaining teams attended the Division
A Montana Cup Tournament. Players selecting to try out for Division AA teams are expected,
unless special arrangements are made with the coach, to commit to participate in all the
practices, at least one out-of-state tournament, the State Cup or Montana Cup, and to
compete for and attend (if qualified) the Regional Snickers Cup Tournament.
For players with slightly less commitment and experience the
Division A league provide an ideal environment for developing players skills and tactical
knowledge of the game. League play in the state is provided for soccer players ages 11
through 19. To field a competitive team requires a reasonable level of commitment; this is
not just recreational soccer. As with Division AA, practices generally start indoors in
January or sooner once a week, progressing to 3 or 4 times a weeks as the weather clears
and we can move outdoors. League play runs in April and May, with two games every Saturday
anywhere in the state. The end of the season is highlighted by the Montana Cup Tournament,
held, in the past few years, over the Memorial Day weekend. Players selecting to tryout
for Division teams are expected, unless special arrangements are made with the coach, to
commit to participate in all the practices and attend Montana Cup.
- MicroSoccer
For younger players and players wanting to further develop their
skills, MicroSoccer provides a low cost, local league. Practices and small-sided games are
held twice a week, in Bozeman. The league is open to players ages 8 through 12. Emphasis
is on skill development. No travel out of Bozeman is required.
Division A and AA Notes:
- Age groups may be combined to form Division A or Division AA as dictated by the number
of players electing each division. Every effort will be made to place players on teams in
the appropriate division, but this cannot be guaranteed.
- The MYSA State Board determines the actual Division A and AA schedule and requirements
for the spring league in November and January and thus these are subject to change.
- Fees cover practices, normal league play and coaches expenses at the State or Montana
Cup. Players are responsible for their uniforms, their expenses at all tournaments and
their coachs expenses at all tournaments other than the State or Montana Cup. See
registration material for more information.
- The commitment made by the Division AA players to attend the Regional Snickers Cup
is a serious commitment. Teams which are qualified to go and fail to attend face rather
large fines (>$5,000.00).
- Teams are encouraged to use fund raising to help offset the costs.
