Position Description:  Head Coach for FC Bozeman

General:

It is the responsibility of a Head Coach to help the Club build the best competitive youth soccer program representing FC Bozeman and our community.  This is primarily done by developing the most professional coaching staff possible.  It is also done by promoting opportunities for players beyond the MYSA, especially at appropriate college levels.  Outreach to advance a strong community soccer culture should be valued highly.  Starting with the 2002 Season, FC Bozeman structured the coaching side of the club with two Head Coaches, one for the boys and one for the girls.  Head Coaches may also serve as Team Coaches.

A Head Coach holds a one year agreement to perform the duties listed below.  Terms of the contracts are negotiated by the Competition Committee of the Board and approved by the whole Board in September of each year.  Terms of the contracts are available to any member upon request.

Duties of a Head Coach:

A.      The primary responsibility of a Head Coach is to recruit, train, and assess the club’s coaching staff for the U11-U19 ages.  Communication and coordination between the Heads of Coaches is imperative in these matters.  A Head Coach recommends to the Board the coaching staff to be hired, as well as relieved of their duties if necessary.  They assign coaching staff to specific teams, and observe as many practices and games of all teams as is feasible.  They provide a written report briefly evaluating each of their coaches to the Competition Committee by 1 August.

B.     A Head Coach is responsible for conducting tryouts and placing of players on teams; and they determine the appropriate level of competition for each team.  A Head Coach promotes the ODP program as appropriate and promotes college soccer opportunities for players.  They collect team tournament schedules prior to the state scheduling meeting and provide the information to the Club Registrar.

C.     A Head Coach handles concerns from members, coaches, and teams as appropriate.  Whenever necessary, the Chair of the Competition is notified of any issue not immediately resolved at the Head Coach level.

D.     A Head Coach has the responsibility of communicating with the Board by attending Board meetings when requested, which will include at least a semiannual, oral report.  Each Head Coach serves as a non-voting member of the Competition Committee and attends each meeting as scheduled by the Chair.

E.     The Board will provide a provisional coaching budget to a Head Coach for the coaching program in October, and a final budget in December of each year.  A Head Coach has the responsibility of managing this coaching budget, providing an oral report to the Chair of the Competition Committee by the first of each month, and a written report by February 1 and August 1 of each year.

F.      A Head Coach reviews this job description annually, suggesting any needed updates by August 1 of each year to the Chair of the Competition Committee.
