Minutes - FC Bozeman Board Meeting – November 6, 2002

Board Members Present:  Jeff Pearce, Rick Sojda, Martie Stewart, Carol O’Neill, Bill Locke, Carson Taylor, Jack Dockery

Others in Attendance:  Jen Gummer, Pam Smith, Ric Plante

Meeting called to order at 7:06 p.m.

NOTE:   MSPMotion, Seconded, Passed

  • Elections – If true that there are no candidates except those nominated by the board, there are four spots to fill and four candidates nominated.  Is it worth expense to mail ballots?  Should board decide who fills the one-year spot?  No. The four candidates should meet and decide.  The four nominated by the board are Tim Owen, Jeff Pearce, Jen Gummer, and Bill Locke.

o        MSP – If there are no petitions for nominations, the four candidates nominated by the board will be elected.  There will not be an election.  The four candidates will decide between themselves who will get the one-year term.

  • Referee Issue – A ref from Helena who refed April 6 never got paid.  But this was a “location” for Helena to play because of snow.  Do we owe him?
    • MSP – Assuming that we do owe him, we will pay him what we owe him.  If this was a “location” for Helena, we do not owe him.
  • Assigners for Next Year – We will have to do this soon – Carson will work on this for next meeting.  Jen Gummer suggested that maybe this should be mentioned at the team meetings – there could be an interested parent.  Bill could e-mail and post on web.  The new assigner will have to take assigners course.  They do not have to be a ref.  The club could provide tuition assistance.  The club would pay for the assigner course.  Ric Plante will ask around for some soccer players who are not going to be able to play soccer next year.  How much does the position pay?  Will cell phone be provided or will long distance phone calls be reimbursed?  Carson will email/phone this info to Ric.
  • Question on 11 year olds.  Would a 9-year-old playing U11 play U11 for three years?  Yes, unless they are the grade level of someone playing U12.  Ric Plante tries to discourage a 9-year-old from playing U11.  That is why we have Micro.
  • Ric Plante – Ric has a parent who wants their money back.  Has played no soccer this year.
    • MSP – Approved that we refund the $50.00 to this player.
  • Ric has presented these coaches to the competition committee –
    • U 16 – Ric Plante
    • U15 – Steve Birrell
    • U14 – Erica Hinton
    • U13 – Rich Brauss
    • U13 – Jen Tzennis
  • Ric needs approval for these coaches so that things can get moving.  He does not have U11 and U12 in place.  There has not been a formal discussion on finalizing coaches’ salaries.
    • MSP – These suggested coaches be approved.  (At this time salaries are not set.  Coaches should be aware of this.)
  • Ric wants Erica to be U14 coach.  She will have a U15 Grade player on the U14 team.  Scott McDonald says NO WAY.  The player is a high school student.  If Erica coaches her in spring, Erica will NOT be able to coach high school.  Whose decision is this?  What level of player is she?  Need to find out from Erica.  She could go up to the U15 team and play with Steve.  Jen Gummer heard from Lee Terry at the meeting in Butte that you can have up to two players in this scenario.  We need to find out –
    • First, is there any good reason that she should play with her grade level?
    • Need MOA rules
  • Ric will talk to Erica and to Steve.  We will look into MOA rules.  Then we will make a decision.

  • Rich Brauss is practicing now, mainly fitness.  His tryouts will be in February or March. Rich has a team manager and a team liaison – Dick Dolan.  When the club needs to contact the team, they should go to Dick D.  When a parent has a problem, they will go to Dick Dolan first, then to Rich and Ric.  Until February or March, he will be in this position.  At that time, he may go with the team that his daughter is on or maybe there will be two new people.  Ric gave Jen Gummer Dick’s phone number and email address.
  • Coaching Clinics are listed on MYSA website if anyone is looking for one between now and March.
  • Jen Gummer asked if there were going to be tryouts, anything soon for U11s.  She is getting lots of phone calls.  Ric does not have a coach lined up at this time.
  • Ric has coaches asking about indoor space.  Board needs to decide what space is budgeted – if a coach wants space outside of allotted time, then the team will have to pay for the space.  At earliest, space is not going to start til mid January.  Before that, individual club will have to pay for the space.
  • Rick Sojda – We need to get the following things done:
    • Time line for getting things done
    • Coaches’ salaries
    • Board needs to encourage Ric Plante and Tim Guenzler to have more contact
  • Jack Dockery asked Rick to think about “big” equipment things.
  • Discussion of September 4 minutes.

·         MSP – Approve minutes as amended.

·         MSP – Approve October 2 minutes.

  • To date there are 264 players signed up.
  • MSP – Direct the competition committee to meet with HOC’s on methods of forming teams U15 and above when there are insufficient numbers for team formation.
  • A draft budget was submitted as part of the record.  Budget committee will put together some draft numbers for coaches’ schedules.  When does the year actually start?
  • There has been one scholarship request received.
  • Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
