President’s Report – Tim Owen
- Tim
has been watching Micro, Boys and Girls games and practices. Micro is what soccer is all
about!!! Incredible watching
those kids!!!! We are getting the
scores in from all teams. We all
should be proud of what we have accomplished. FC Bozeman teams will have much better
seeding this year at State than in the past.
- Some
of our teams had great successes in Pocatello. U13Boys won. U11G went 1-1-1. Tim is very pleased with the coaches,
kids and parents for putting out the effort.
- U18Boys
are going to the Superclub National Tournament in Orlando, Florida. This is the first team from Bozeman to
every accomplish this. The best
of the best of the best!!! The
U18s won the Superclub Tournament in St. Louis – had two shutouts. Incredible!!
- All
of the boys teams are going to the Coeur d’Alene Hot Shots Tournament except
U11 white and U18 white.
- There
was an outstanding goalie clinic on Sunday. Each age group for the boys was
represented. Colin Hardwick from
Creston, BC, Canada, and Brittany Uelrich U15B coach in training, conducted
the clinic. It was a very
successful afternoon.
- Carson
Taylor and Franco Bancroft have done an outstanding job with scheduling the
refs.
Micro – Lisa Prugh
- Lisa
presented Jeff a list of coaches who will get refunds and a list of the Micro
scholarships (lists submitted as part of the record). Lisa turned in the bulk of her
coaches’ risk management forms to Martie. She also presented Micro’s Actual and
Projected Expenses to date as part of the record.
- Jimmy
Carter was been fantastic working with the refs. All games are set except for Sunday in
Coeur d’Alene. Jimmy has worked
on the fields with the younger refs, showing them the arcs, etc.
- Tim
Owen commended Lisa, her assistant – Jenny Martin, and Jimmy Carter for doing
an outstanding job. Tim O. would
like to increase Lisa’s salary from $2000 to $3000. All of her work is providing the
future players for the club.
- MSP – Motion to pay Lisa Prugh, Director of
the Micro program, $3000 per year and extend tremendous thanks.
- Tim
O. stated that he expects that as the Micro program grows, the Director’s
Compensation will grow.
- MSP – To present a $50.00 gift certificate
to Lisa’s assistant, Jenny Martin, for Louie’s in appreciation for all of her
uncompensated work for Micro.
Risk
Management - Martie Stewart
- Had
a great turnout at the Risk Management meeting. She has received all but five signed
statements. Everyone has received
and read, but five have not been returned. These coaches want more information on
the insurance issue.
- A
copy of the Minnesota Soccer Risk Management policy was given to Carson.
- Risk
Management will be done the same time as the coaches sign their contracts next
year.
- Jack
Dockery brought up the fact that all the goals are being put down on Saturday
after the games. Then they are
always back up on Sunday. Someone
needs to call MSU to tell them we are putting them down, and then someone else
is putting them back up.
- It
was mentioned that from the Risk Management meeting, the coaches are “hearing”
that they are being required to get the liability insurance to protect the
directors of the club. This was
definitely not the intent of the board.
The problem for the coaches is that in most cases the cost of the
insurance policy will be more than their soccer salary.
- Phil
R. suggested that we have someone on the board check into the liability
insurance issue and see how it is handled in other states. Jeff McGuire has checked with MYSA,
but has heard nothing back.
- FC
Bozeman does not have liability insurance for the directors at this time.
- USYSA
– Are the coaches insured with them when they sign their contracts?
- Pam
Ransom suggested that instead of signing and saying “Read and Abide’ to just
say that they have read.
- Tim
O. said that we need to look at this issue this summer and go over all the
problems and work on how to handle.
Needs not to be so heavy handed. Everyone needs to be aware of
Risk Management from an insurance standpoint. How are we protecting our
coaches? We need to find this
out.
Treasurer’s
Report – Jeff McGuire
- Jeff
submitted the Profit and Loss and the Balance Sheet (January 1 – May 1, 2002)
as part of the record.
- MSP – Accept the Treasurer’s Report as
presented.
- None
of the men’s assistant coaches have been paid. Don’t have signed contracts. Tim O. has signed contract for
Brittany Uelrich (Tim G.’s “coach in training” with U15 team) and will get it
to Jeff so that she can be paid.
- All
assistant coaches will be paid.
Manager
Liaison – Pam Ransom
- A
lot of people are involved with the club who should be more involved but are
not. Then there are the
incredible people who do it all.
Need to get more people involved!
This is an age-old problem.
Web
Site – Bill Locke not present
- The
web site is up one third from last year – around 40 hits per day right now.
- Tim
O. reported that May 3 was the deadline for getting all the scores to Joe
Merrick for State Cup. Coaches
are responsible for doing this.
Bill has also sent all the scores to Joe for the club. Tim is very concerned that all the
info gets turned in for State. It
is very important for our seeding.
Registrar’s
Report – Jen Gummer
- Jen
is waiting for a couple of teams to commit to Montana Cup.
- She
needs the final team rosters for State and the Montana Cup. Deadline for State being submitted to
Missoula is May 11; deadline for Montana Cup is May 25. She wants State info turned into her
by Monday, May 6.
Policy
Committee – No Report
Referee
Committee – Carson Taylor
- Carson
feels like things are all going smoothly.
Fund Raising
- Jen
Schmeiding has collected back most of the Pizza Hut cards. All should be done by next week.
Facilities/Equipment/Uniforms – No Report
- Pam
Ransom thanked Jack Dockery for doing an outstanding job.
Program/Tournament Coordinator – Jeff
Pearce
- Submitted
a letter from Dart Smith – “Kick Start” on hosting tournaments in 2003.
- First
thing to consider before we even consider hosting any tournament is whether
the MSU fields will be available and find out if there are any major conflicts
happening at MSU.
- MSP (one opposed) – The club will prepare
and submit a bid for the 2004 State Cup.
This gives the club time to get everything organized.
Summer
Program – No Updates
- Tim
O. stated that it was May 1. He
noted that time was of the essence.
Only 30 days to give players some venue to participate in this summer.
- Ric
Plante has his info and forms printed for his summer programs. He handed a stack to the U11B
coach. The program is available
to all ages, but biggest numbers fall in the U11-U14-16 age groups. His program is broken into three
sessions to allow people to have time for vacation, etc.
Parent/Player
Questionnaire
- Big
discussion on the questionnaire.
Tim O. has had parents ask why there was no questionnaire last
year. Ric Plante said if a
questionnaire is not signed, he has no one to address to solve a problem,
therefore does no good.
- The
questionnaire could be put on the Web-Site. If parents and players wish to respond
they would be asked to put their name on the form so the Heads of Coaches
could respond.
- Some
possible questions –
- Will
your player plan on playing next year?
- What
would you like to see done that we are not now doing?
- What
are we doing that you do like?
- The
individual board members should give this some thought, develop some questions
and email them to Jeff.
- We
need to get this out before Snicker’s Cup.
- Possibly
we should have just two simple questions on the web site. Get the word out through the
managers. If parents wish to
respond, it is available for them.
Scholarship
Committee – No Report
Bronken
Fields – Phil Rotherham
- Kentucky
Blue Grass is doing great – fields will not have to be reseeded. That saves the club about
$5000-$6000. City of Bozeman owns
the fields. They are going to
take care of the fields – they do not really like it, but they are going to do
it. Phil thinks that we should
offer them $1200-$1500 to buy fertilizer. We need to see if AYSO would
contribute $650-$700 for the fertilizer.
This keeps our foot in the door.
Rugby would like to help with labor but no money IF we would construct
PERMANENT rugby goals on the field.
This is not acceptable.
- MSP – Motion that FC Bozeman contributes
$600 to fertilize Bronken Fields and that the board authorizes Phil R. to ask
Jen Gummer to ask Kurt if AYSO would match.
- We
need to get a check from FC Bozeman and AYSO as soon as possible.
- Jeff
McGuire will mail the check to Phil and he will get it to the city.
Competition
Committee – No Report
New Business
–
- Ric
Plante will have his players sign commitment forms next year before the
beginning of the season. He will
also try to hire his coaches earlier.
He was commended for handling a very difficult situation to the very
best of his ability.
