Micro Report Terri Murphy wondered why she wrote 48 checks for $30 (refund) to coaches this year and only 10 checks were written last year Discussion led to the fact that last year micro coaches were asked if they wanted the refund and this year refunds were just given More discussion led to the consensus that next year micro coaches will simply be given a T-shirt or sweatshirt from FC Bozeman Blitzz Web Report Kerry suggested acknowledging appreciation for webmeister's excellent work this year. Along these same lines another board member suggested that we acknowledge Rich Brauss in his retirement for many years of coaching our youth in soccer. Bill L. will write letters to both Mark Arneson and Rich Brauss expressing the club's thanks. Administrator/Registrar/President's Report Jen Gummer Following the State Cup tournament the end of May, there were 2 additional tournaments that FCB teams competed in. 2 teams (BSL boys and U14G) competed in the MT Cup. The BSL team picked up a U14G to play with them for the tournament. The U14G team played with 11 players. Both teams had great competitive seasons. The 8v8 Cup was the last weekend in June, with 7 teams participating (2 U11B, 2U11G, 2U12G, 1U12B) each team ended up in the championship match in their respective flights. These tournaments are great training grounds for coaches and managers as to what is expected of them as far as team book preparation, player cards, coaches meetings, etc. All of the coaches and managers did a great job. For the competitive season, our club had 5 players who requested the insurance the league carries for injuries. Letters have gone out to all families who have not completed their four hours of volunteer work, requesting the $50 fee. All competitive fees have been paid, with 2 exceptions of families that will be paid by August. Discussion and brainstorming amongst board members led to the conclusion that next season managers will be given a sign off sheet that has to be filled out and returned to the club indicating the service and hours that families volunteered to benefit the club, not just their own team. Presently there are 56 players registered for the Fall training program. There is an Administrators meeting scheduled in Missoula August 6th. The clubs that have an Administrator position are Strikers, Arsenal, Magic City, and FCB. Strikers, Arsenal and Magic City are all at least part-time positions (minimum 20 hours per week). As a budget request: the club should look at purchasing a fax machine. This would help the club administrator greatly as there are many faxes that need to be sent out during the season. Head Coach Report Tim G. He has read the evaluations. Tim appreciates the strengths mentioned. He also appreciates the advice for improvement because that's what will help make him better. Successes 18 teams 10 teams in championships Every team did better than last year Every team was close to winning or won semifinal games 63 FC Blitzz players are currently attending the Gonzaga camp Comments from players: "This is the best camp that I have ever attended." "In one session I have learned a lot." "I hope they have this camp every year!" Tim just earned his B license "Lots of work but worth it!" Tim met a National Team Sports Psychologist who is willing to come work with our kids. Tim has not made a decision as to whether he will accept the position as Head of Coaches for the 2004/2005 season. "Alot of time spent away from family is tough." Tim will let the Board know his decision as soon as possible. Billy McNichol was very impressed with our club when he did the clinic. U17 Girls team are very impressive. Division I playing opportunities Abby Wheeler: Georgia Southern Whitney Odden: Florida Central, Williams Other players may still get offers Bill Locke announced that many of the girls are attending the Darmouth Camp Mike Rivas is writing letters to coaches to promote the girls 5 or 6 of the U17B are also working hard to play college soccer We need to foster the belief that "We believe it could happen." Kerry asked Tim about the fall league for the U12-U14 age groups 4 teams U12G, U14G, U12B, U14B Registrations are still coming in When Bill L. expressed that there needs to be some sort of a deadline, Terri M. and Bill R. explained that since we are just building the program this year we need to keep taking players until teams are full. Don't know if younger teams will play 8v8 or 11v11 Deadline for Littleton was July 5 U14B are signed up U14G will pay a late fee and register Before beginning committee reports Bill L. expressed the need for Board members to reflect on this year and find ways to improve different areas of FC Bozeman. Bill L. also wants club members to know that if parents have concerns about anything, the Board is willing to listen. Just let the Board know. In this discussion, the Board was informed that there is a possibility of Ric Plante wanting to take a team to tournaments. Bill L. stated that he has spoken to John Hollow and allowing Ric to coach directly violates his contract with the State. Also, the club does not have insurance for Ric. It's a liability. If approached we are to tell the people asking to call John H., and Ric won't be able to coach under FC Bozeman as long as he is bound by another contract. Committee Reports A. Budget Development/Treasurer Report Terri Murphy Jim Tilleman will write letters to the State regarding past due income tax returns. Terri will have our fiscal year run from July to June. Terri advised the Board that at Fall Registration it would be beneficial to show Profit/Loss from previous year and the budget so that club members are more aware of what their money is used for. Members agreed that would be a great idea! Terri asked Board members if we knew of any big expenses for next year. The need for replacing some goals was mentioned but Tim G. stated that goals would be covered in the $5000 that PUMA gives the club for buying uniforms. Terri wanted clarification of where to put volunteer fees and Bill L. stated they are to go to the general fund. Terri also asked for clarification of where an anonymous donation of $5000 years ago is to be spent. Mary Anne stated that she would look into it. Personal Issue: Terri Murphy asked that because of the number of hours (sometimes up to 40 preparing for a meeting) she puts in as Treasurer, she wants a fee waiver for her children to play soccer with FC Bozeman. All board members agree that the Treasurer puts in many hours of work and should be compensated for the time Discussion took place because Dick and Mary Anne felt the Board should put a limit on how many children of the club treasurer should play free. A motion was made by Bill L. to waive the fees for the children of the FC Bozeman treasurer. Kerry H. seconded the motion. 6 Board members voted for and 1 Board member abstained. The motion passed. B. Facilities and Equipment Dick Prugh Dick Prugh informed the Board of some land (in Baxter Meadows Subdivision) that he is looking at as an opportunity for our club. He will look into the land more and report back to the Board. Dick also strongly urged the Board to give approval to construct a building at Bronken fields which would be used for concessions, storage and office space. The design and permit are done we should pursue this, thanks to the help of Phil Rotherham. Will cost around 140K A donor gave $100,000 specifically for the building at Bronken The club already has $14, 456 set aside in the Adam Bronken Fund for this. We may even have more with other donations that could be used. May only need 20K to 25K more in funds Bill L. asked the Board if there were any valid reasons not to start the building. Mary Anne asked where the 20Kto 25K would come from. The club will pursue AYSO for help since they will be using the fields for soccer also. Bill L. stated that he would help out if needed Board members feel that we can raise it Motion made by Mary Anne to proceed with the contract to construct a building at the Bronken fields. Bill Robinson seconded the motion which was unanimously passed. C. Head Coach Supervision and Development Bill Robinson Evaluations have been done and given to Tim G. Uniforms Tim G. brought it to the Board's attention that in his contract it states that he is in charge of choosing uniforms. This was not known by many Board members at the June meeting. Tim welcomes our thoughts and suggestions. The Board discussed the recommendations of going with the Monacco uniform by PUMA. This was chosen due to moderate pricing and style. Colors of Navy and White with state champion teams being allowed to wear Red to distinguish them as champions. The local vendor will be Universal based on PUMA choosing them Cost of numbers and Blitzz logo will be negotiated with JD at Universal by Bill R. All teams have the option to wear the old uniform next season if all players have the uniform All teams must buy the PUMA uniform by the 2005/2006 season. Board members suggested that when a warm up (not mandatory) is chosen, it be weather proof. Bill R will meet with JD and decide how the PUMA products will be distributed to honor the 30% discount. D. Referee Liason no report E. Team Manager Coordination - no report F. Player Recognition/Promotion/PR no report G. Fundraising no report H. Risk Management no report Policy Sue Manfredi Meetings on 7/13, 7/27, and 8/17 at 7 p.m at Sue's house. New Business Summer/Fall "To Do"List Bill stated that we need to think about how to get member committees. Unfinished Business Administrator Position Jen Gummer asked if we want to continue with this position Board members feel that the position is very beneficial to the club and unanimously said "YES" Jen told members that any of us were welcome to go to the Annual General Meeting on August 6, 7, &8 Tournaments Bill L. is strongly encouraging FC Bozeman to start planning now to put in a bid for the State Tournaments in 2005/2006. We missed this year's deadline for 2004/2005 but we need to get organized for next year's bids! We need to start getting a committee of club members to start organizing this The State reimburses hosting clubs for field space so renting from MSU would not be a problem.
