Manager LiaisonJen Gummer

Tim Owen reported that he has had numerous calls from U11B and U12B parents because they have heard nothing about tryouts.  Tim Guenzler and Carol O’Neil have a meeting set up for next week.

Web – No report

Registrar’s ReportJen Gummer

The club affiliation papers have been submitted.  We have 264 registered now.  Two U13 girls have requested to quit.

Heads of Coaches –

Tim Guenzler – Tim is getting his staff together.  He is trying not to have parent coaches, but this is tough when qualified coaches are not available.  He has just hired Mike Rivas.  Mike is moving here from Colorado.  He has outstanding credentials.  Mike will be coaching the U12 and U13 boys.  The boys’ side needs U15 and U17 age group players.  Tim’s coaches are Chris Beausoliel for U14 (Chris will be a “D” coach in January) and Mike Rivas for the U12s and U13s (Mike will be getting his “B” license).  Tim will coach the U16s and the U19s (Tim has a “C” license).  Tim is still working on the coaches for the U11s, U15s, and the U17s.  Eric Tiahrt might be assisting Mike Rivas, and Baldwin Goodall will also be an assistant coach.

The U13 and the U16 boys did not win at the Turkey Shoot in Vegas, but it was a great learning experience for them.  Both teams came back with great attitudes and know they can now compete at the next level.

MSP – Unanimous – Approve Tim Guenzler, Mike Rivas and Chris Beausoliel as FC Bozeman coaches.

Discussion – What will a coach be paid if coaching two teams?  Dave Bowen stated that what we are doing now is approving individuals as coaches, NOT what they will be paid.

Ric Plante

Ric asked when he would know the dollar amount that coaches will be paid?  He needs to know so that he can get coaches to sign their contracts.

Joann Austin – MYSA, approved Erica Hinton to coach because the player in question did not play high school soccer.

Regionals will be in Hawaii this year.  Right now just the basics for one team to go will be about $25,000.  Tim Owen said that he would send e-mail to coaches and team managers to see if they are interested in Hawaii.  They will have to post a $3,000 bond (the club will not pay this).

Ric is also looking for coaches for his U11 and U12 girls.  Just as Tim, Ric is trying to stay away from parent coaches.

Rick Sojda asked Ric what his plans were for teams without enough players.  The U15 girls’ team has only 5 players signed up.  Ric said that Belgrade was starting a club.  For teams without enough players, they should contact Jodi Martz in Belgrade.  They are still in the very early stages of club formation.  Another option is to contact clubs in other towns.  Another suggestion is to double roster the U16 and the U17 team – double roster the full U16 team with the 17s.  Ric has 24 on the U12.  He said he would watch them play over the winter and then he might recommend some go to Micro and some to the U13s.  He just does not want to send anyone home.

Facilities Jack Dockery

Jack needs HOCs to tell him how much gym time they want.  MSU needs proof of insurance – Jack has that for them.  Starting dates have been discussed.  We were going to start later so we can play into the summer on the grass.  Rich Bruass has been practicing – his club has been paying for their time and space.  Tim Guenzler doesn’t want to start practicing until February 1.  Then he can play til July 15.  HOCs will meet with their coaches.  There are still two aluminum goals on Babcock.  They can be used as long as the weather permits.

Tim Owen’s arena will be set up with a quik goal.  Any team can use the arena for shooting practice.

For spring practice, Tim Guenzler’s teams will stay at Babcock, and Ric Plante’s teams will be at Sacajewea.

Program   Jeff Pearce and Tim Owen

The Utah Blitzz is coming the weekend of January 11 and 12.  This clinic will be open to both boys and girls.  $30.00 for three hours of training.  There will be a goalie clinic the same weekend with Colin Hardwick.

Jeff Pearce presented a list of names that have been submitted through the website for a nickname for the club.

We need to start thinking about a summer program.

Competition Committee –

Dave Bowen is going to resign from the Competition Committee.  He feels that someone on the board should hold this position.

New Business –

Election process.  The Election Committee has four candidates for four positions.  At the Annual Meeting and through the web, requests for nomination petitions were requested.  There have been no other nominations.  It was decided at the last meeting that there would be no election, and the four candidates would decide who would serve the one-year term.  The four new board members are Tim Owen, Jen Gummer, Jeff Pearce, and Bill Locke.  Tim Owen would like to nominate himself for the one-year spot.  It is also time to think about the new Club president.

MSP – approve Tim Owen to the one-year term.  The other three board members will serve three-year terms.

Tim Owen said that the new president must be someone who wants to do the job and he/she must have the time to do the job.  Tim thinks that he can contribute much to the club by helping the new president get started and in working with the HOCs with getting new coaches in town.  We need to start thinking about this now.  We cannot elect the new president until the January meeting with the new board.

We also need to start thinking about the formation of new committees.  Dave Bowen suggested that Rick Sojda send a list of committees so that people can decide on which committee they would list to serve.

Budget Report – Bill Locke

Bill presented a graph of the FC Bozeman Coaches Pay Scale as part of the record.  A lengthy discussion of base salary followed.  Base salary does not include experience and merit – base is a guaranteed minimum.  The present budget allocates $30,000 to coaching – is $30,000 enough?  More discussion.  Phil Rotherham noted that there were two issues – How much money is available and how do we pay it to the coaches?  He suggested that maybe we just put Tim Guenzler and Ric Plante together and let them decide how they want the pay their coaches from the $30,000.  They are the ones who know what a coach is worth.

The HOCs were comfortable with this.  They can figure if they can really work with $30,000 or do they need more.  How much will it actually coast according to their standards?

MSP – Unanimous – Accept Phil’s recommendation to take the $30,000 budgeted for coaches and have the HOCs decide how to pay their coaches.  They should report to the Budget Committee with their coaching salary schedule for next year in two weeks.

Tim Guenzler asked why couldn’t we just do what we did last year?  He asked Rick if there were any major problems with it last year.  Ric said no.

If both coaches are happy with what we paid and their coaches are basically happy – why change it?  Ric P. said he would like to see exactly what he paid his coaches last year.

Let the coaches tell us what they need for their requirements.  If they are short, bring in their request to the board so we can see where money can be found to take care of any deficit.

Uniform Bids – Jack Dockery

Jack has two bids – only $10.50 difference.  Both have same deadline for ordering.

Universal Athletics - $74.50, but the club is responsible for placing one total club order and the club would be responsible for distributing the uniforms.

Soccer Shop - $85.00 – They will do everything!!

MSP – Move that the Soccer Shop receive the bid to supply uniforms to the club.

Adjourn – 9:30 pm
